Requirements for Texas Statehood
When Texas was annexed to the U.S., there were some requirements for Texas to become a state of the U.S. First, Texas had to hold a convention and an election. Then, Texas had to write and adopt a state constitution. Also, Texas had to turn over public land to the United States. Finally, they had to sell land to help pay off the huge debt that Texas had accumulated. After all of this, Texas finally became the 28th state of the U.S. on December 29, 1845.
