role of the Texas rangers

Before the Mexican War, the role of the Texas Rangers was to protect land surveyors from Native American attacks. But during the United States' war with Mexico, the Rangers assumed a different role. The rangers began to fight for the U.S. and, in doing so, earned a reputation as a strong, well-armed, incredibly lethal fighting force. Without the Texas Rangers, we may have lost some of the most important battles of the war. In 1848, the war with Mexico ended, but the Texas Rangers are still not forgotten to this day.
